Tax planning for Raleigh business owners and high earners

Year-round planning across entities and states: structuring income, timing, and elections so you may legally keep more of what you earn. We plan during the year, not after it.

Why most people overpay

Most tax bills aren't decided in April. They're decided during the year — by how the business is structured, when income lands, and which elections are or aren't in place. By the time a preparer opens last year's records, those decisions have already been made by default.

That is the gap between tax preparation and tax planning. Preparation reports what happened. Planning changes what happens.

What we actually do

We build and maintain a tax plan around your whole picture — the business, your compensation, your investments, and the states you touch. In practice that means:

  • Entity structure — whether your LLC, S corporation, or partnership setup still fits the income it now carries, and what changing it would save.
  • Income and expense timing — accelerating or deferring income and deductions around brackets, thresholds, and known one-off events.
  • Elections — S elections, accounting method choices, and the other checkboxes that quietly set your tax treatment for years.
  • Multi-state issues — where you owe, where you file, and how to keep two states from taxing the same dollar.
  • Retirement and owner compensation planning — salary versus distributions, and retirement plan design that fits the business.
  • A year-end review — a working session before December 31, while the moves on the list can still be made.

Who this is for

Owner-operated businesses, high-income professionals, real estate investors, and owners with more than one entity or more than one state. If your return is a W-2 and a standard deduction, you likely don't need this yet — and we'll say so.

What happens first

We start by reading your most recent returns — business and personal — and mapping your entity structure. Then we quantify what a plan would change, in dollars, and put a fee next to it. You decide whether the math makes sense before any engagement starts.

Engagements begin with a consultation so we can scope the work and quote it accurately.
